Luxury barge cruise to explore the Canal du Midi for 6 nights/7 days from Beziers to Carcassonne. Your stay will be organized with a half day cruising and half day activities and excursions. The availability and discretion of our professional crew is truly unique and everything will be taken care to ensure you have a memorable trip.

Onboard the Esperance you will be charmed by the tranquility of the Canal du Midi. This UNESCO classified waterway offers a peaceful and romantic journey. Day trips allow you to discover the beauty of the surrounding area in our luxurious private Mercedes minivan.

The interior has been redesigned as a private yacht with 3 spacious ensuite bedrooms, offering an incomparable level of quality and comfort. The layout is bright and spacious, the furniture is built of solid teak, with white wool carpets and hand made tiles. Esperance can accommodate up to 6 guests. Half board includes two dinners onboard, all breakfasts & lunches. Four dinners are at the passengers own expense in local restaurants along the route.

Esperance Bezier to Carcassonne on Canal du Midi 

Sunday –  Beziers 
A member of the crew will meet you at the Beziers railway station at 4pm and transfer you to the beautiful Esperance that is moored in the enchanting countryside of the famous Canal du Midi.  Enjoy a champagne reception on deck and then explore the barge and settle in before dinner.  

Monday – Cruise to Capestang 
Relaxing day as you glide along the 16th century canal. Stopping in Colombiers where you will have time to go for a walk before lunch. This afternoon the cruise will take us to the pretty village of Capestang and through the tunnel de Malpa which is famous for its unique structure. This is the perfect day to go for a bike ride or enjoy a hike while the barge is moving slowly. 

Tuesday – Cruise to a canal side mooring 
Off to the lively city of Narbonne that offers a little art and history. Go shopping  in the city center, visit the covered market, discover the Archbishops Palace or spend the morning on the Med. A beautiful cruise today with a romantic night mooring in the middle of the vines and arched trees. 

Wednesday – Cruise to Le Somail
For the religious history fans, Fontfroide Abbey is a nice choice. The Abbey was founded as a Benedictine abbey in 1093 and later in 1145 affiliated with the Cistercians. It is a lovely collection of religious buildings and a stunning garden. Or if you prefer, we can visit the Olive factory at L’Oulibo, a prize winning olive oil mill and a great place for tasting and buying olive oil and tapenade. The afternoon will let you float along as your lunch is served on deck. Moving thorugh the peaceful treelined canal and all the way to a romantic night mooring in Le Somail with its fascinating antique bookshops and local artisians. 

Thursday –  Le Somail to Homps 
A scenic drive to the Minervois hills and les gorges de la Cesse to get to Minerve. This picturesque medieval village is perched on a rocky outcrop formed by the rivers Cesse and Brian. Famous for its Cathar hisotry and its wine countryside, this village has a delightful charm and history. On the way back to the barge, a stop for a wine tasting to discover more about hte excellent regional wines. Time later to relax on deck before a quiet mooring close to Homps. 

Friday: – Homps to Carcassonne
After navigating a couple of traditional locks, the barge will cruise to our last mooring, close to Carcassonne. After lunch you will have plenty of time to discover the famous walled medieval town of Cite Carcassonne. If you prefer perhaps a visit to Lagrasse. The attractive village is now home to numberous pottery workers and artisits  attracted by the place itself and the renowned natural light of the region.

Saturday – Au Revoir

After a wonderful breakfast your guide will take you to your hotel in Carcassonne or to the railway station for your onward journey.
