Nouvelle Aquitaine

The Aquitaine region borders Spain and boasts the southernmost part known as the French Basque country. This Basque area has a unique culture and language that is evident in the towns of Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Poiitou-Charentes has beautiful seaside resorts and historic port cities along the Atlantic coast and inland to the foothills of the Massif Central. The area is easy to explore and enjoy the coastline. La Rochelle & Ile de Ré are favorite stops along the French Atlantic coast with a rich history and picturesque views. Ile de Re, known as The White Island for the quality of its light and whitewashed houses.. Of the islands ten villages, two are classified as on the Most Beautiful Villages in France list.. Lots of biking and hiking await you on the isle.

The Cognac houses may be interest for an up close and personal look at this variety of brandy. Visits to the famous Cognac houses and then discover the smaller producers along the cognac trails in the area. You might also want to try the Pineau de Charentes which is a local aperitif made with Cognac.
