Picardy
Picardy
Picardy is a
region that is mostly rural. Here the
spectacular beaches and dunes continue for
miles along the coast. Among the many
outdoor activities to enjoy are barge
cruising, hiking, cycling, horseback riding
and golfing.
This region has some of the finest examples
of Gothic cathedrals in France. The city of
Amiens is the capital of the region and has
the Cathédral Notre Dame, one of the most
impressive cathedrals in the country. It is
the largest cathedral in France and its
Gothic architecture is highlighted by the
beautiful and magnificent rose windows.
Regional food specialties include crème
Chantilly a whipped cream created here and
named after the city of the same name.
Savory and abundant seafood is easily found
in this costal region. Other specialties to
try are the duck pâté, Maroilles cheese,
macaroons and salt marsh lamb.
